Robert Reeves Tierney
age 92, of Lawrenceville, PA passed away at his home on Saturday, August 8, 2020. He was born on July 3, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of Thomas and Genevieve (Reeves) Tierney. Robert was an Army veteran who served as a communications officer and paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an operations control manager for RCA and was a member of the Holy Child Catholic Church in Mansfield, the Wellsboro VFW, and a charter member of the Christopher M. Passetri chapter.Robert is survived by his sons Robert T. (Ginger) Tierney and Christopher (Linda) Tierney, both of Lawrenceville, Pa, and his daughter Kathleen Hanson of Audubon, NJ. He was pre-ceded in death by his wife of 67
years, Anna Tierney, daughter Janet Bion, and brother John T. Campbell.A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Robert’s honor to the Franciscan Friars of the Atone-ment. www.atonementfriars.org. Burial will take place at the Bath National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA.
Kevin L. Heffnerage 68, of Lawrenceville, PA passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. He was born on March 27, 1952 in Tioga, PA, a son of Benjamin and Lillian (Deats) Heffner. Kevin was the loving husband of Rose (Croft) Heffner. He worked at Inger-soll Rand and often did vehicle maintenance and detailing.
Kevin is survived by his wife Rose; son Nakia (Michelle) Hef-fner of North Carolina; daugh-ter Peggy (Georgia Whitsell) Heffner of Corning, NY; brother Steven (Mazzie) Heffner of Elk-land, PA; sisters Lydia (Roger) Stone of Tioga, PA, Janice Bliss of Tioga, PA, Jennifer (Brian) Atkinson of Lawrenceville, PA, Mary (Ed) Steffan of Law-renceville, PA, Hazel Morse of Lawrenceville, PA, and Marilyn Smith of Lawrenceville, PA; mother in law Judith Croft and grandchildren Justin, Sophia and Grace. He was preceded in death by brothers Nolan, Durwood, Franklin and Philip Heffner and sisters Pat VanOrden and JoAnn Losinger.Friends and family were invited to call on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 637 S. Children who spend a lot of time outdoors benefit from exposure to nature in myriad ways, some of which may surprise even the most devoted outdoorsmen.According to a 2006 study published in the journal Hu-man Dimensions of Wildlife, fifth graders who attended school at a local prairie wetlands where lessons in science, math and writing were integrated in an experi-mental way had significantly stronger reading and writing
skills than their peers who attended more traditional schools. Another study pub-lished in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that holding a class outdoors one day a week sig-nificantly improved the daily cortisol patterns of students, reducing their risk of stress and improving their ability to adapt to stress.Parents who want their children to reap the rewards of being exposed to the great outdoors can encourage edu-cators to incorporate nature into school curriculums and also embrace these family-friendly outdoor activities.
