A hairdryer can (quite literally) make or break your haircare routine.

Too hot, and you risk frying your strands into a frizzy mess. Too cool, and what should be a quick styling session turns into a weightlifting session as you endlessly battle with damp hair.

Yet, it’s one of those products that’s often overlooked and underrated, particularly with the influx of all-in-one styling tools to market every day.

And unless you have a spare $650 to invest in a certain cult hairdryer, you rarely hear about gadgets that are seriously changing the game.

That was, at least, until I discovered the CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro Hair Dryer.

What Is The CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro Hair Dryer?

The latest innovation from CLOUD NINE, the Airshot Pro is the new and improved version of the brand’s hero hairdryer.

Designed to be “lighter and mightier” than its predecessor, the upgraded hairdryer features Intelligent Temperature Control, regulating heat 100 times a second for a faster blowout and healthier strands.

The CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro Hair Dryer also features a unique Self-Clean Mode.

Once activated, CleanFlow technology blows air in the reverse direction to propel dust build-up out from the back for optimal upkeep and long-lasting performance.

My clean-freak Virgo spidey senses are tingling… but wait, there’s more.

Here are some other fast facts:

  • 1600w power and 220-240 voltage.

  • Weighs 0.44kg, down from 0.81kg in the previous model.

  • Built with an Eco-Precision motor designed to provide more power to cut down drying time.

  • Features three temperature settings that peak at 85 degrees Celsius and a cool shot button to set styled hair.

  • Includes two magnetic heads that snap to fit: a precise-drying nozzle for sleek hair and a diffuser to define curls.

Technical talk aside, we need to talk about the CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro Hair Dryer’s design.

It’d be remiss of me to not acknowledge the obvious similarities between it and said cult hairdryer I mentioned earlier...

Sharp, sexy, minimal and matte black. If hairdryers were a car, the CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro would be a sleek and powerful sports sedan — a perfect blend of performance and style, without the luxury price tag.

That said, it’ll still set you back just shy of 500 dollars–better than 650 dollars, though.

Now that we’re up to speed on the buzzy new hairdryer from CLOUD NINE, let’s get to the review, shall we?

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro Hair Dryer a few weeks ago (much to the envy of the rest of my team mwahaha).

I’ve been using it to blow-dry my fine tresses once or twice a week, and have some thoughts.

We’ve already talked about its design — this monochromatic-loving writer’s dream — but let’s take it back a step further to its packaging: a sexy black box that begs to be opened.

Inside though, is the real magic. Beyond the lid lay the hairdryer, perfectly poised on an angle at the ready. Almost like it’s standing at attention.

Underneath the Airshot Pro was a long, three-metre cord (tick) with a handy velcro strap, a user manual and the two attachments neatly packaged.

It was fast and simple enough to put together. Like similar options on the market, the hairdryer has a magnetic closure that the attachments easily snap onto.

It’s also pleasantly lightweight! Which is a huge plus for these non-existent guns.

Suffice it to say, first impressions were on point.

Now onto the performance.

The lower temperature settings mean the hairdryer gets hot, but not hot enough that it burns your hand or hair – a big tick for us fine hair folks.

The cool shot setting proved handy too, helping set my strands after drying them (a trick I learned recently from my hairdresser).

It took me about thirty minutes to create a bouncy blowout, but that’s coming from someone who a) typically isn’t very good at them, b) is still getting used to giving her now-longer hair a salon-quality blowout and c) was filming the entire process.

I think if I really tried, I could cut this down to about twenty. If I’m just blow-drying my hair straight it only takes a maximum of ten minutes.

Its “Intelligent Temperature Control” regulates heat 100 times a second, more than double that of said cult competitor, and is easy enough to navigate. So too is the speed setting.

The only drawback of the Airshot Pro's functionality is that the buttons are quite sensitive – cut to me accidentally turning it off and changing its heat settings more times than I’d care to admit...

Other notable features include a relatively quiet motor that gets the tick of approval from my cat (who typically is nowhere to be found during a blow-dry) and its self-clean mode which literally eradicates any shred of effort I have to put into upkeep.

And of course, it’s price.

Yes, 500 dollars is still nothing to be scoffed at, but it’s more justifiable when you consider how much time, energy (and sanity) you’ll save by using the CLOUD NINE Airshot Pro Hair Dryer.

It may have a slightly lower wattage than its predecessor, but at least you can blow-dry your hair happily knowing you’re protecting its health.
