How to Farm in Dreamlight Valley

Let's start with the basics. To farm in the game you'll need to dig a patch of ground up, plant a Seed in, water it with your Watering Can, and then wait for it to grow. To complete this process, you'll need 4 things:

• A Shovel
• A Watering Can
• A Seed (of any kind)
• A clear patch of ground with no obstruction

Luckily for you, you'll obtain the first two items during the opening missions of the game, as the tools are obligatory for you to progress further into your journey. Clear patches of ground are abundant, even in the starting area, so that won't be an issue either. So all that is left are Seeds.

Where to Buy All Seeds

So the question is: How do you get seeds? Well, there are a couple of different options. You can occasionally earn Seeds as Quest rewards early on and they can be collected by removing Night Thorns in different areas (rewarding different Seed types depending on that area).

Your most reliable method of getting Seeds however is at Goofy's Stalls. These are available to open for a small fee in each different area/biome of the valley, and each will sell different inventory (including Seeds) that are specific to the biome that the stall is in. The rarer the Seed, the more it will cost, but it is a good way of securing an elusive ingredient that you need for a meal or to complete a certain quest objective.

Dig a hole, plant the Seed, water it when it begins wilting to continue the growing process, and then reap the rewards of your hard labor!

Farming With Friends

Sowing and harvesting crops can be a lengthy process, and whilst the reaping of crops can be a reward all its own, you can make it even more worthwhile if you involve a friend in the process.

Every NPC character you bring to the game (with a few exceptions like Ariel and Ursula) can be assigned specific roles that help to bolster your Friendship Level with them should they participate in that activity. A couple of these roles that are particularly relevant to farming are Digging and Harvesting. BUT even if a character is assigned a different role unrelated to farming, it is still worthwhile having a friend with you regardless, as performing any activity with them in your company still raises your Friendship Level.

To get a friend to join you, speak to them and choose the "Let's Hang Out!" option.

Best Seeds to Earn Star Coins Quickly

With so many aspects to take into account, such as seed price, growing time, harvest yield, and sell price, it's easy to become a little overwhelmed when trying to work out just which seeds are the best bang for your buck. Thankfully, we've done the calculations and have worked out which of the following seeds will offer you the best profit per minute.

If you're curious, here's how we worked out our calculations. First, we calculated how many harvests can be done per hour (60 Minutes divided by Growing Time). We then worked out the profit per seed, which is assuming you purchased them from one of Goofy's Stalls (Sell Price minus Seed Price). Next, we use the Total Harvests Per Hour and multiply that by the Profit Per Seed (remember to take into account items harvested per seed). Finally, we take the Total Profit that we just calculated and divide that by 60 Minutes. This will provide us with the total profit earnt per minute.

Following our calculations, here are some of the most efficient and best-profiting seeds that will earn you the most amount of money quickly:

• Canola = 2.4 Star Coins Per Minute
  • Canola seeds are available to purchase at Goofy's Stall in the Forest of Valor. Canola seeds are also best grown in the Forest of Valor region.
• Tomatoes = 2.32 Star Coins Per Minutes
  • Tomato seeds are available to purchase at Goofy's Stall in Dazzle Beach. Tomato seeds are also best grown in the Dazzle Beach region.
• Carrots = 2.27 Star Coins Per Minute
  • Carrot seeds are available to purchase at Goofy's Stall in Peaceful Meadow. Carrot seeds are also best grown in the Peaceful Meadow region.
• Wheat = 3 Star Coins Per Minute
  • Wheat seeds are available to purchase at Goofy's Stall in Peaceful Meadow. Wheat seeds are also best grown in the Peaceful Meadow region. While Wheat offers to best return profit, the one-minute growing time can be quite a hindrance and actually slow down your hourly profits if you're not efficiently using your time.
• Celery = 4.5 Star Coins Per Minute
  • Celery can be purchased from Goofy's Stall in The Docks. Offering a profit of 45 Star Coins per harvest, Celery is a quick-growing vegetable as its 10 minute timer, combined with an auto-water, makes it relatively easy to harvest.

Despite a 240-minute grow time, Pumpkins offer the most Profits Per Harvest, coming in at 389 Star Coins profit for every Pumpkin harvested.
