The original under hood paint highlights the rust free normal "hot spots" like the typical shock tower and floor high rot out areas! You may never find one this rust free. Family owned, leak free and garage keep truck. Turn key driver status. Take it anywhere. Normal Ca. registration. NO biannual smog check on these "under the radar" early diesels... even here in Ca. Capable of any alternate fuel although I've only run Chevron top tier fuels. More reliable than my TDI Jetta SportsWagen and just as fun. The wife affectionately named her "peanut butter" for several obvious reasons.
Wife driven since 2010. Starts, runs and drives excellent. Fly in drive it home if you'd like. I'll do what I can to assist shipping. Most everything listed below has been done in the last several years and less than 1000 miles. We only put aprox. 1500 miles since we've owned it.
The drive train consist of the original engine and transmission. Engine has been professionally rebuilt and balanced. It was bored and honed to 0.5mm overbore and fueled by a Giles super pump with matched injectors. The new injector hard lines are equipped with an optional heating system for improved cold whether operation. All systems have been meticulously gone thru. This truck fires right up and runs exceptional every time.
It's just returned from a thorough presale checkup. The local VW guru has looked everything over and confirmed no known issues. All serviced and ready to go. Turn key. Ready to ship or you can fly in and drive home. One of the highest m.p.g. vehicles ever built.

Never have issues on start up, even extended periods. Typical 60 degree morning, 1st start up. As a habit we usually "double tap" the glow plugs (new fast glow plugs and relay conversion).

ALL OF THE ABOVE has less than 1000 miles since completed.
So many factory MkI/II option upgrades have been done over the years I may be forgetting a few. Spare parts like bumpers, interior misc. NOS collection, camper shell can be included in the winning bid!
600 miles on the fresh professional blue print level rebuild. With the .5mm overbore, line bore and fully balanced internals this 1.6 indirect injection (original motor) runs amazingly smooth and quiet. This also is the (1st year ?) using the stouter 12mm head bolts, upgrading from the weaker 11mm. A Giles super pump with matched and balanced injectors assist starting easier, running cleaner, more efficient with great drive ability.. The power increase is also noteworthy. Along with the new high pressure hard lines, Thermostatically controlled cold weather line warmers were aided. Quick start glow plugs and relay upgrade insure excellent drive ability. 45 mpg mixed driving has been typical. A free flowing 4-2-1 header into a 3" stainless exhaust system is ready to handle any future turbo upgrade. The usual items where addressed such as rebuilding the vacuum pump, new water pump, thermostat, belts and hoses. New heater core, recharged r12 - not downgraded to 134a and a/c hoses where done at engine rebuild. Parts and radiator were hot/cold tanked or safety cleaned. Engine was NOT paint rattle canned over. (To keep good original paint and markings). That can be new owners call if they want it. I have always run quality Chevron fuel.
5 speed 020 Transmission New clutch, serviced with proper GL4 Redline synthetic, resealed, shift linkage reconditioned and gone thru.
nos sending unit, Fuel tank boiled, inspected (zero rust). preventative POR15 coated, all hoses replaced with upgraded Teflon DuPont lined hose, o.e, return line used.
New hood latch and cable. New exterior door handles and window seals. Locking tail gate latching mechanical gone thru. Bed liner applied.
Not perfect but close. As with any older car, there seems to always be some level of fit and finish required. bid with confidence. Let me know any further questions.
I'm going to miss this ol' girl. I just feel its time for a new owner to enjoy this keeper. BTW FWIW 1983 P/U Is the one year on only with factory inner hold down loops

Before Kenwood install. Although this steering wheel was nice looking, it felt "flimsy" and was upgraded to a nice leather 4 button. Solid!
